WHO WE ARE
The Armenian General Athletic Union and Scouts, referred to as Homenetmen, is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization founded in 1918, which has to date served over 800,000 youth in five continents. Homenetmen Western Region currently has 19 chapters. It is the largest Armenian athletic and scouting organization in the United States.
It is Homenetmen’s mission to prepare exemplary and law-abiding citizens by providing physical and health education, endowing the mind and soul with the finest spirit of sportsmanship, and developing and understanding a sense of responsibility and honor as they strive for individual and collective excellence.
The first chapter in the United States was established in 1968. Since then it has provided the Armenian-American youth with moral, physical and social education, while exposing them to the Armenian culture and heritage. The Homenetmen experience is one of lasting association, altruism, and benevolence. Homenetmen’s motto, Elevate Yourself and Others With You is a constant reminder of the fundamental object of the organization.
Homenetmen Western USA’s athletic programs have over 3,500 members from ages 7-50 who compete in local league competitions as well as major regional athletic programs that include: basketball, volleyball, soccer, track and field, tennis, swimming, gymnastics, chess, karate and table tennis. They eschew the spirits of sportsmanship, competition, and teamwork while instilling a strong sense of individual identity.
The Homenetmen scouting program provides youth and young adults from 7-24 with moral, physical, and social education while instilling discipline with the goal of preparing outstanding law abiding citizens. The program also exposes scouts to the wealth and treasure of the Armenian culture and heritage. In its service to the youth, Homenetmen helps develop leadership and life skills, scouting fun through weekly activities, camping trips, merit badges, and community service.
